How is Your Kua Number Calculated?
The calculation is based on your lunar birth year and gender. It's important to note that Chinese New Year typically falls between late January and mid-February. If you were born in January or early February, your Kua year might be the previous calendar year. For simplicity, this calculator uses your entered Gregorian year directly, which is a common approach in basic online tools. For precise Feng Shui, one would consult a specific solar calendar (Lichun).
General Steps (Simplified for Calculator):
- Determine the last two digits of your birth year.
- Sum these two digits. If the sum is a two-digit number, sum those digits again until you get a single digit.
- Apply the gender-specific formula:
- For Males: Subtract the single-digit sum from 10. (For those born in 2000 or after, subtract from 9).
- For Females: Add 5 to the single-digit sum. (For those born in 2000 or after, add 6). If the result is a two-digit number, sum those digits again until you get a single digit.
- Special Rule for Kua Number 5:
- If a male calculates a Kua number of 5, their Kua number becomes 2.
- If a female calculates a Kua number of 5, their Kua number becomes 8.
