Understanding the FFXIV Squadron System
The Squadron system is a unique "management-style" mini-game within Final Fantasy XIV's Grand Company progression. As you recruit members from various races and classes, you are tasked with training them to meet specific attribute thresholds: Physical, Mental, and Tactical.
The Three Attributes
- Physical (P): Represents the raw strength and endurance of your recruits. Essential for combat-heavy missions.
- Mental (M): Represents the focus and intelligence. Vital for strategic and investigative deployments.
- Tactical (T): Represents the coordination and planning. Required for complex operations.
How Success Probability is Calculated
Unlike many other RNG systems in FFXIV, the Squadron Mission success rate is strictly tiered based on how many stat requirements you meet:
- 3 Stats Met: 100% Success Probability. The mission is guaranteed.
- 2 Stats Met: High Probability. You have a very good chance of success, but failure is still possible.
- 1 Stat Met: Low Probability. Success is unlikely, but occasionally happens.
- 0 Stats Met: Near-Zero Probability. You are almost guaranteed to fail.
The only exception is the Rank 3 Flagship Mission. This specific mission requires all three stats to be met for a successful rank-up. If you only meet two, you will fail the promotion regardless of the "High Probability" tag.
Optimizing Your Training
Training sessions allow you to redistribute your Squadron's total attribute pool. You have a maximum cap of points that increases as your squadron levels up. Efficient use of the FFXIV Squadron Calculator involves checking which training regimen will shift your points into the specific configuration required for your next Priority Mission.
Recruitment Tips
Don't just look at levels; look at the base stats of the classes. Gladiators and Marauders provide high Physical stats, while Conjurers and Thaumaturges boost Mental stats. Rogues and Archers are excellent for balancing out Tactical requirements. A diverse roster is the key to flexibility.
